Since its beginnings back in 1994, CQL Canada's Annual Conference has evolved into a must-attend conference for anyone in the disabilities field, with offerings for and from persons with disabilities, family members, researchers, service providers, policymakers, community leaders, advocates, and nationally recognized professionals in the various disciplines in the diverse field of disabilities.
This year's conference - Enrich a Life - Start a Ripple! - will focus on how lives can be enriched by giving a little bit more than a person expects and how an improvement in one person's life can lead to improvements in the lives of many people.
Each of us can change the culture of our organization and the way we do business simply by giving more than is expected. As a service provider, you can reshape the culture of your organization and your community in the way you provide services, support people, and engage community members using the simple Ripple Effect. If you always give a little bit more than a person expects - whether that is the person you support, a family member, a community member, a colleague or your boss - you will see the RIPPLE EFFECT in action. Put your personal signature on your job and without a doubt a RIPPLE will happen and you will make a difference - you will have an impact.
It’s a telephone call to touch base or follow up; it’s leaving your number and e-mail address for someone if they have questions; it’s taking time to have a coffee with someone; it’s actually listening….
This is not some new, innovative idea. Although typically in our work we do not talk about great services coming from the heart, each of us can inspire, each of us can do something that will make a difference to someone – it does not have to be anything big. Treat others with respect, ensure dignity, care about what you are doing and who you are talking with, be present – all small things. You should not be surprised by how positive thoughts and actions expand outward to affect others' lives, who in turn will add to the "RIPPLE" with their own positive thoughts and actions.
Watch this presentation called “Johnny the Bagger” to get a sense of this year's conference theme - Enrich a Life - Start a Ripple! It is an excellent example of how a small gesture led to a huge change in the culture of an organization.
Join us in October to hear keynote speakers and other guest presenters share their stories, approaches and ideas on both how they have helped, and how we can all help enrich not only our lives, but everyone’s.
Come and expand your knowledge and
gain new people-centred solutions.
